Clematis 'Piilu'

This is an award winning Clematis from Estonia that is gradually becoming more known thanks to nurseries and wholesalers across the world.

It is an introduction from Estonia from the late plantsman / breeder Mr. Uno Kivistik of the former Soviet Union.

'Piilu' won the Plant of the Show award at the famous Plantarium in Holland in 1998 and is a deciduous climber to about 2 m or 6 ft., height and is a cross between Clematis 'Hagley Hybrid' and Clematis mahrouyi.

The leaves are tapered and dark green while flowers first appear in May - June which are double to 7cm across, while later appearing flowers are single. The flowers are light purplish pink with an eye catching wide dark purplish-red bar.

Clematis 'Piilu' is one of the heaviest blooming Clematis - even one year old established plants are covered in flowers from top to bottom and flowers will keep appearing until October in northern hemisphere countries.

Another positive thing about 'Piilu' is that there are always some flowers on the plant, it doesn't take a mid summer break.

Propagation prohibited except to licensed growers and royalties from the sale of this fine cultivar are forwarded to Mr. Kivistik's wife and daughter.
