![]() Clematis x cartmanii ('Blaaval 'PBR) 'Avalanche' is a selected seedling from a cross made at Blackthorn Nursery (Kilmeston, Alresford, Hampshire England) by renowned plantsman Robin White. The pollen parent was Clematis paniculata and the seed parent was Clematis marmoraria - both evergreen species from New Zealand. It looks excellent trailing down banks or large rock areas and makes good ground cover as well as trained on a wall or fence or through decidious shrubs. It will grow to perhaps 4-5 metres and the flowers appear on the previous season's wood. It is a very vigorous grower and is winter hardy to -10 °Centigrade. The plant was developed by the world famous Raymond Evison Guernsey Clematis Nursery and was being exclusively distributed to garden centres in the UK by Darby Nursery Stock Ltd from 2001.
