Fargesia robusta 'Pingwu'

Fargesia robusta 'Pingwu' is a new bamboo introduction from Oprins Plant NV of Rijkevorsel in Belgium.

It was first shown at Plantarium 2002. Oprins is the world's leading producer of temperate and tropical bamboos and although Fargesia robusta varieties are not among the hardiest bamboos, 'Pingwu' remains green in winter if it is sheltered from the wind.

'Pingwu' has rather small, shiny green leaves growing to four metres (12 feet) and the most striking detail of 'Pingwu' is the large bracts that add to the decorative value of the young green shoots.
